Sometimes and Always

Sometimes, you want to go back

Take a few steps back into the past.

Life’s delivered a painful slap.

Things just felt better in the past.

Sometimes you want to freeze in the now

Holding on to the moment in hand.

You want all of time to bow

To the moment held in your hand.

Sometimes you want to run fast

Head to the future, never look back.

Maybe then the pain won’t last

If you run hard enough without looking back.

Sometimes you’d rather be anywhere

Anywhere in time but now.

Sometimes, you just want everywhere

Everywhere in time to be now.

Sometimes, you can’t see the reason

For why you must go through this pain

But everything in life has a season

Seasons for joy, and seasons for pain

Sometimes, it’s hard to realize

That for everything God has a plan.

Trust him. You could never idealize

A better kind of plan

Sometimes you want to be in control

Of every moment in time

But for all things there is a goal

Which you will reach in time

Always, in the time and world so vast

All seasons will have a reason.

Head for the future; learn from the past,

Know God controls every season and its reason.
